Coin Capsule 1989

My sister began keeping her change in a glass bank when she was 16. All the coins inside were dated 1989 or earlier. They have not been touched since that time. Without breaking the glass, I had just now managed to get all of the coins out.

My findings:

Total cents = 268 ($2.68)
Total nickels = 61 ($3.05)
Total dimes = 52 ($5.20)
Total quarters = 44 ($11)
Total halves = 1 ($.50)
Total cash $22.43

What I took:
For the cents, there were no wheat pennies. There were 76 copper cents. All others were zinc. Among the copper cents, 2 were red. I took all of the copper cents and 52 mint state zinc pennies which I thought were best (although none gradeworthy).
For the nickels, I took 6 in mint state and 1 dated 1947-S
For the dimes, I took 5 in mint state
For the quarters, I took 4 in mint state

Nothing significant here. No silver. Most of the uncirculated coins were dated in the 1980s. No errors or special varieties. The mint state quarters looked nice. Haven’t seen them for a while.

If you’re reading this, don’t worry sis. I’ll fill your bank back again. It’s much easier putting them in than out. And you know what I took out 😉
